25% discount on hotel prices for winter Char Dham yatra: Dhami

Uttarakhand government has decided to provide 25 per cent discount on hotel prices to pilgrims staying in Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam accommodations to promote tourism to winter abodes of the Char Dham deities.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun on Tuesday.

Dhami said pilgrims coming to the winter abodes of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri will be given a 25 per cent discount in GMVN hotels.

Officials aware of the matter said Dhami also directed the officials to ensure all the necessary arrangements for the winter pilgrimage. "The winter yatra should also be promoted on a large scale. Winter Char Dham yatra will also prove to be a game changer in boosting the state's economy", he said.

Dhami on Sunday inaugurated the winter Char Dham yatra at Ukhimath, the winter abode of Kedarnath Dham, in Rudraprayag district, as part of the government's decision to promote the Char Dham yatra to winter abodes.

After the portals of the shrines are closed for winter months, the deities of these shrines are moved in palanquins to their winter abodes at lower elevations at specific temples and shrines.
