Why do you think the government has decided to amend the 2017 IIM Act? There is already a lot of concern about how the bill will dilute the autonomy of the institutes.
The purpose of the 2017 Act was to transfer full autonomy to all 20 IIMs. The Act allowed them to make decisions independently on performance improvement, governance and operational effectiveness. In case of bigger IIMs, protests and concerns from stakeholders, particularly faculty members, gained significance due to the inefficacy of the existing grievance redressal procedure.
