Woman in Arabic script dress saved from Lahore mob
Hindustan Times|February 27, 2024
A woman wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy printed on it was rescued by the local police in Lahore after an angry mob mistook the calligraphy for verses of the Quran and called for her beheading accusing her of blasphemy, according to reports.

The woman, who was eventually saved by a policewoman who escorted her away from the angry mob of around 300 people calling for her beheading, later issued an apology for wearing the dress that had the Arabic word "halwa" (which translates to beautiful in Arabic) printed in calligraphy, the BBC and local media reported.

Police officials quoted by the BBC said they received a call about the incident at around 1.10pm on Sunday reporting that a mob had surrounded a woman and her husband at a restaurant in Lahore's Ichhra Bazaar.
