Exiles beat Leitrim for first Connacht Championship win

MARTY Morrissey hailed his hometown of New York after they secured their first ever championship win by beating Leitrim. 

There were jubilant scenes at Gaelic Park in New York when the home side triumphed after a dramatic penalty shootout which saw Leitrim miss all four penalties at the weekend.

American native Mikey Brosnan scored the winning shot which sparked wild celebrations after securing the US side’s first victory since entering the competition in 1999.

And RTE star Marty, who grew up in the Bronx after moving there aged one month with his parents, was quick to pay tribute.

He wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations New York ! An amazing night as New York beat Leitrim in the Connacht Championship after extra time and penalties!
