SOME Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission investigations into malpractice allegations have been running for up to 15 years.
The massive cold cases delay was revealed by its director of investigations, Peter Whelan, during a GSOC appearance at Leinster House yesterday.
The chiefs of the commission were before the Oireachtas petitions and ombudsmen committee where they were pleading with politicians to sanction more staff and resources.
GSOC currently employs 170 people and has an annual budget a little shy of €17million.
