IRELAND BIDS TO WIN THE EUROS..

IRELAND’S joint bid with the UK to host Euro 2028 was formally submitted to UEFA and is tipped to beat rival bidders Turkey.

Hundreds of thousands of fans coming to Ireland for the prestigious football tournament could generate €240million for the country, it is estimated.

Aviva Stadium in Dublin and GAA ground Casement Park in Belfast are the two stadia confirmed as part of the bid.

GAA headquarters Croke Park, also in Dublin, was ruled out because of a UEFA rule that limits one stadium per city.

Croker’s 82,300 capacity makes it the biggest stadium on the island of Ireland, while Casement Park, which is under reconstruction, would be the smallest Euro 2028 venue with 34,500 seats.

Fans expressed shock at the selection of Casement as it has been dormant since 2013 and its estimated €158million rebuild has been hit with delays.
