We knew they would come for us but it's so hard to stop them: Lyng

DEREK LYNG knew that Limerick would come for his Kilkenny team in the second half of yesterday’s All-Ireland final.

We knew they would come for us but it's so hard to stop them: Lyng

But there was nothing that the Cats could do about it when the champions did.

Paddy Deegan's 42nd minute goal pushed Kilkenny back into a five point lead. The hope for Lyng (right) was that it would quell the Limerick storm that had started to build before half-time.

Instead, it stoked the fires. What followed was an awesome display of Treaty power, 10 points scored by Limerick to one in a breathless 15 minute period.

"It's not enjoyable anyway." sighed Lyng, who watched Kilkenny's hopes of a first Liam MacCarthy in eight years evaporate over that quarter-hour.
