The actor went outside in a silk dressing gown and allegedly hit Karl Poole, 48, in a 5.30am altercation over noise.
Tompkinson, 57, who denies assault causing grievous bodily harm, came out of his house to find Mr Poole and pal Andrew Hall on his drive, the jury was told.
Mr Poole suffered brain injuries after falling to the ground and hitting his head.
In a police interview, Tompkinson said: “I went into the house and calmed down a bit.
