AS police tape flapped in the wind, three forensic tents stood on an estate and TV news crews gathered, a community in shock grieved.
Harpurhey woke to the news that a 14-year-old schoolboy had died following a stabbing on Tavistock Square on Friday.
He was later named as Nathaniel Shani. As the hours went by yesterday, families of Nathaniel's schoolfriends turned out to pay their respects and leave flowers at the scene.
Children wept alongside their parents. Those living on the Harpurhey streets surrounding Tavistock Square were also rocked.
"It's so sickening," said Courtney Andrew, 23, who spoke of how groups of 'young kids' gather at Tavistock Square 'every week!
She said: "It's just not a place that's safe any more, especially for kids."
Her sister Carly saw the aftermath of Friday's incident.
