UNITED manager Erik ten Hag says the news of Sir Bobby Charlton's death inspired some of the players to beat Sheffield United.
Charlton passed away at the age of 86 yesterday. His battle with dementia was made public in November 2020.
The Reds recorded their second successive Premier League win of the season with a 2-1 triumph at Bramall Lane, where Diogo Dalot's long-range strike settled a scrappy contest.
"The first-half wasn't the standard [of] Sir Bobby Charlton, Ten Hag stressed, "the second half was a bit better.
"The news arrived and we are very sad. Our thoughts are with his family, especially his wife, Lady Norma, his children, his grandchildren.
"He was a legend, a giant. His achievements are so immense and huge global. If you see the facts, what he achieved is incredible, all his games, titles, trophies, the contribution he had with the goals.
