GREATER Manchester Police has launched an investigation into allegations made by a lifer who claims he is innocent of the murder he was convicted of.
Graham Redford was told he must serve a minimum of 30 years for the murder of Stacey Lloyd, over a £6,000 debt, following a trial 18 years ago.
But Redford alleges there were major flaws in the case built against him by GMP. He hopes APPEAL - the same organization that successfully led a campaign to prove Andrew Malkinson had been wrongfully convicted of a rape for which he spent 17 years in jail - will take on his case.
Mr Lloyd's body was found by firefighters in the boot of his burning blue Subaru Impreza on the night of January 16, 2005, on a remote lane in Unsworth, near Whitefield. After spending a year on remand, Redford was convicted of murder and jailed for life in February 2006.
But, as reported in the M.E.N. earlier this year, after nearly two decades behind bars Redford maintains his innocence and is mounting a fresh bid to clear his name.
The full details of Redford's allegations - which he claims amount to obstruction of justice - can now be revealed, after the M.E.N. obtained a document from GMP's Professional Standards Branch which details each of his claims.
The letter - an 'acknowledgment of complaint' - records how Redford has made allegations against 'multiple officers! The first of his allegations is that
GMP described a witness as being of 'impeccable character, when, he alleges, the man actually had a fraud conviction.
