Emergency services flooded the scene on Raby Street after the attack. An air ambulance was scrambled to the incident, landing in Millenium Park, as police cordoned off neighbouring streets shortly after 4.15pm. Forensics later arrived to conduct investigations as officers in white suits took photos of the scene and an evidence tent was erected.
The victim, who witnesses saw being treated on the ground, was later rushed to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.
The M.E.N understands he has since died.
