Pep Guardiola called his substitutes back from the touchline to come on after Erling Haaland had put the game to bed against Slovan Bratislava, with James McAtee and Ruben Dias on for Manu Akanji and Haaland for the final half-hour.

There was no shouting from Haaland as he came off, but a lengthy chat with his manager followed and they had another on the pitch at full-time.

Haaland had every right to feel disappointed.
