The Scotland international completed a move to Serie A side Napoli for a reported fee of £25million, starting a new chapter of his career.
Although his time at United is now over, there can be very few question marks over McTominay's desire and effort when he pulled on the Red shirt.
Former Red Devils academy mid-fielder Callum Whelan who now plays his football for National League side Gateshead FC came through the Red Devils' academy set-up alongside McTominay, and believes he's proven his worth to every Manchester United manager who came through the door.
Whelan joined United from a young age, spending 14 years at Old Trafford before being released in 2019.
Although he didn't quite make the grade at United, he was part of an illustrious group of academy talent, including the likes of Marcus Rashford, Angel Gomes and McTominay.
Despite being two years younger than the Scottish midfielder, Whelan formed a close friendship with McTominay with the pair living together as they came through the ranks at Old Trafford. Whelan has forged his own career away from Manchester having dropped down the 1 h leagues, finding a home at National League side Gateshead FC.
