HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a dad-to-be who died in a water rescue incident.

Junaid Athar, 26, died after he was pulled from a brook on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to the stretch of water off Broadway, Cheadle.

Junaid, who was expecting a child with his partner, later passed away despite the best efforts of medics.

Junaid, who lived in the Cheadle area and previously studied at Nottingham Trent University, has been remembered by friends and family as an 'amazing' man with a 'cheeky smile!

His sister Natasha Athar said that Junaid's sudden death came as he was preparing to be a father.

"Junaid Athar was a 26-year-old young man into fitness, MMA and part of a beautiful community that he would lighten up wherever he went; wanting nothing but the positive energy and life," she wrote on a Gofundme page.

"He sadly lost his life through drowning in a marsh in Cheadle.
