Mount has to fight his way back after setback - Ten Hag

Christian Eriksen went down injured near the end of the first half in United's match against Luton Town at the weekend and Erik ten Hag turned to his substitute bench to instruct Mason Mount to warm up.

Mount replaced Eriksen in the 40th minute and it was a like-for-like change, with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes continuing to occupy the more advanced midfield roles they'd started the game in.

Mount was brought to Old Trafford from Stamford Bridge to play as a deeper midfielder, to be a No.8, but his first few months in Manchester haven't gone to plan and he's already found himself out of the team.

The £55m signing last started in the league against Brentford on October 7 and he's been limited to cameos from the bench, so replacing Eriksen in the first half against Luton was an opportunity he couldn't waste.

Fortunately for Mount, he did well from the bench and he showed composure in the move which culminated in the match-winning goal from Victor Lindelof, although there will certainly be tougher assignments ahead.
