Linda Smethurst assumed she had caught norovirus from a colleague at work, but was eventually told she had bowel cancer and could have just 12 months to live.
The beauty therapist, from Rochdale, suffered with the illness for around four days before she eventually started to feel better.
The mystery bug returned two weeks later, leaving the 54-year-old wondering if she was very unlucky.
However, alarm bells rang when the illness came back several times, prompting a visit to the doctor.
