Nature goes down a storm

STORM Debi caused havoc in many areas the Wildlife Trust had to close woodlands on our reserves across the region.

Trees are obviously vulnerable to high winds, so woodland paths are not great places to walk when a storm is blowing.

Whilst advising people to take care the dog still needs a walk - I have to admit that I love stormy weather both indoors and out doors. I love to hear the wind blowing around the house and I love to be out in the blustery weather in autumn.

Storms are Nature's way of making changes, blowing away the leaves from the dying trees and even removing some of those trees that might be dead or diseased.

The day after the storm I often find my path blocked by fallen trees and branches.

Over the years I have seen some pretty massive conifers and a large oak, blown down by gales.

I was walking once through the woods when I heard a crack and saw a branch crash to the ground.
