NIGHT buses will be rolled out in parts of Greater Manchester as part of a trial later this year.
Andy Burnham revealed that plans for a pilot scheme are being prepared during the Night Time Economy Summit.
The Greater Manchester mayor told an audience at Depot Mayfield about the pilot. He said: "For the first time in a long time, we're talking about running night buses in Greater Manchester. We think we can stack up a night offer." Speaking to the M.E.N. afterwards, Mr Burnham said the trial is set to start 'certainly this year, hopefully the middle of this year! He said his vision is for all-night bus services on routes across Greater Manchester. There are already some night buses available in the city-region, but most of them serve south Manchester and surrounding areas.
They include the 142 and 143 which terminate in Didsbury and the 43 to Manchester Airport. Mr Burnham said the pilot will focus on 'one or two' main routes in and out of the city centre. The first new night services will be launched on routes in the Wigan and Bolton areas where buses are now under public control.
