The victim was pronounced dead by emergency services at the scene on Olympic Street, Beswick, at around 10.54am on Saturday.
Greater Manchester Police had been called to reports of an unresponsive man.
A murder probe was launched, with a scene remaining in place amid fast-paced investigations.
CSI officers were taking images of the scene as detectives made doorto-door enquires and evidence markers were placed in the road.
Police said early enquiries suggested the victim had been hit by a Land Rover.
