Mary Sanchez: A Princess, the press and a plea for privacy

Rapturous for tidbits, the global obsession with “Where’s Kate?” finally has received a reply.

Kate is Kate Middleton, wife/queen to the future King of England, sister-in-law to the monarchy-fleeing couple Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, and mother to three adorable young children.

The world now understands that she had abdominal surgery in January that discovered cancer and is being treated with chemotherapy.

Let’s hope and pray that the princess can receive a break from a society that routinely oversteps, even as it seemingly worships her.

Her predecessor in royal beauty and grace, the late Princess Diana, rarely did.

The Princess of Wales’ announcement of her diagnosis, of her “preventative” ongoing treatment, came in a video posted online that immediately drew millions of views. She was seated on a bench, flowering daffodils growing in the grasses behind her.

It was a lovely spring scene that had her in control of the message and tone, which, unfortunately, is probably not why it came about.

“William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
