The first week of the sporting extravaganza saw Team GB riding high in the table alongside China, Australia, France and the US. And day eight got off to a golden start with the men’s eight rowing crew storming to victory for the nation’s 10th gold so far.
Five bronzes followed for the women’s eight rowers, the dressage team event, men’s gymnastics floor final, 4x400 mixed relay as well as for women’s windsurfing.
That put Britain in fourth place for the total number of medals won in Paris, at 33, and in fifth in the table for golds.
Another sensational day for British sport saw a brother and sister both win medals in the final day of the rowing at the Saint-Cassien Lake.
Tom Ford, 31, from Cheshire, was part of the men’s eight crew who took gold shortly after his sister Emily, 29, won a bronze as part of the women’s eight crew.
After the race she said her brother had helped reassure her after a “bad training session” in the build-up to yesterday’s final.
Emily said: “I spoke to Tom and he said ‘Don’t worry, it will be fine’.
“We know each other inside out. We have followed the same path in life.’’
