Some 84 million images of cars and their drivers are taken every day.

That means around 1,000 pictures a second are fed into a super computer that can track a car's movement and link it to its owner.

Every time a vehicle passes, a camera takes a picture of the numberplate and the driver's face.

With some 35 million vehicles registered in the UK, on average each car is "captured" almost 1,000 times a year.

Police say their Automatic Number Plate Recognition system is invaluable in preventing and solving serious crime and terror attacks.
