RFK’s decision to reject his democratic roots and back Mr Trump’s presidential bid followed the collapse of his own independent campaign, which had flagged to just 4 per cent popularity.
In a highly polarised US, where results are expected to reflect the tightness of 2020’s controversial election, even this could make all the difference. Some Trump pollsters like Tony Fabrizio say that more of Mr Kennedy’s supporters would back Mr Trump than Kamala Harris in battleground states.
