The annual Saturday meeting at the Vaal Racecourse takes place today and features the most unique race on the South African racing calendar, the R500,000 World Sports Betting Grand Heritage over 1475m.
This Non-Black Type event is the only race in the country to comprise more than 20 runners and can go up to a field of 28.
It is a lovely race to be part of and it allows horses rated around 104 and below to compete for this advantageous stake.
I know for a fact that trainers and owners who are based at the Vaal thoroughly look forward to this event each year, and to followers of this column, I believe it is a day you will thoroughly enjoy, so take the trip out to Vereeniging and enjoy a lovely day's racing.
Once again, it's a perfect opportunity for me to thank sponsors World Sports Betting for their sponsorship and we do appreciate your support, which includes the grooms' initiative we see at every meeting.
This is a standalone meeting, so punters have the opportunity to concentrate on the day's racing and hopefully our column can guide punters to a successful day.
This weekend is the final column before Christmas, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish every single person in the racing fraternity a very merry Christmas.
May you take this time to enjoy your loved ones and thoroughly rest and appreciate the blessed holidays.
Normally for me, it's a grind right through, so while I am eager to get back racing, I will take this opportunity to enjoy my family time.
