Dimple Yadav, the incumbent Member of Parliament from Mainpuri since December 2022, previously served two terms representing Kannauj in the Lok Sabha. Married to Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, she emerged as a dynamic leader in Mainpuri despite perceived inactivity in Parliament. In the 2014 general elections, Mulayam Singh Yadav secured victory on this significant seat amid the Modi wave. Following Mulayam Singh’s demise, Dimple won convincingly in the 2022 by-election, maintaining the Yadav family’s stronghold. Mainpuri has seen 17 general elections and 3 by-elections, with the SP winning 9 times.
Despite visible development, caste-based voting remains influential. With approximately 1.9 million voters, the Yadav family has dominated for 18 years. Mainpuri’s social composition includes a significant presence of backward and minority voters. The 2024 general elections are crucial for scrutinizing Dimple Yadav’s performance, and India News is conducting surveys to gauge public opinion on her parliamentary report card.
In terms of attendance in Parliament, the number of questions asked, utilisation of MP funds, and special contributions, Mainpuri’s MP Dimple Yadav scores 1 out of 3, which is equivalent to 33%, a figure significantly below the average.
According to a survey conducted by India News on the ground, parliamentary performance holds great significance during elections. The real measure is what the people think about their MPs. In the survey, various questions were asked, and the people of the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency expressed their opinions openly.
