In an encouraging development, Dr. Anupam Dhasmana, a scientist from Lucknow working at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, USA, has made a significant breakthrough in early detection of pancreatic cancer. His discovery of a new biomarker offers hope in diagnosing this lethal disease at an early stage, which could dramatically improve survival rates.
THE BIOMARKER DISCOVERY
Dr. Dhasmana identified a protein called CEACAM7, which appears to be a promising biomarker for earlystage pancreatic cancer. This protein is particularly noteworthy because it is found only in pancreatic cancer patients and is primarily present in the early stages of the disease. His findings, recently published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Advanced Research, suggest that CEACAM7 could be instrumental in diagnosing pancreatic cancer before it progresses to advanced, more fatal stages.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this biomarker is its natural history.
