Hurdles in land acquisition put brake on Metro 5

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) decided to construct a car shed at Kasheli village for the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro 5 project and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also performed bhoomipujan of the proposed project in 2018.

However, the project is progressing at a snail's pace. According to reports, only 40% of the total 27 hectares required for the car shed has been acquired by the district administration.

MMRDA had set a target of making this project operational by 2021, but due to a very slow process, the metro is yet to be operational even after three years of the stipulated deadline. It seems residents of Thane and Kalyan will have to wait longer to fulfil their dream of travelling in a metro train.
