NHRC appointments: Rahul and Kharge question fairness

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have in their capacity as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively submitted dissent notes on the appointment of the chairperson and members of the National Human Rights Commission in which they termed the process as "fundamentally flawed" and a "pre-determined exercise" that ignored "the tradition of mutual consultation and consensus".

Following the meeting of the PM Narendra Modi-headed search committee, of which they were members, both Gandhi and Kharge submitted their joint dissent note in which they objected to the manner in which the proceedings were carried out.
