Rajendra Kumar Lalji Diwakar from Kosebi district in UP, had come to Navi Mumbai recently and was staying with his brother at Airoli. He was looking for employment at a laundry and had finally found one at Ulwe.
On Friday, after work, he shut shop and went to Panvel to meet another relative. Since the relative was not at home, he decided to return to Ulwe. Accordingly, he boarded a train for Belapur and around 6pm, he got off at Belapur, to board an Uran train for Ulwe.
Since there was no train at that time to Uran from Belapur, he decided to board an Uran-bound train from Nerul and got on a Panvel-CSMT train from Belapur to get down at Nerul.
