Shelar alleged that Thackeray scrapped several planned dam projects in the favour of expensive desalination plants during his tenure as the environment minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The BJP leader highlighted the incomplete desalination project as a "contributing factor" to Mumbai's water crisis.
