Stir erupts on Olympic Rings on Eiffel after Games

While the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo announced on Saturday that she would like the Olympic Rings to stay on the Eiffel Tower permanently, outgoing Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati does not seem equally enthusiastic. Keeping the rings on the Eiffel Tower depends on several factors and Ms. Dati said on Sunday that, "All procedures and consultations must be respected."

A day earlier, on Saturday, the Parisian Mayor revealed that she wanted a "marriage" of the Tower and the Olympic rings, without mentioning any consultation on the subject. "As mayor of Paris, the decision is up to me and I have the agreement of the IOC (International Olympic Committee). So yes, they will stay on the Eiffel Tower," she told Ouest France, a regional French daily.
