West Midlands police confirmed the incident was not being treated as terror-related, and they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incidents. Two pedestrians were hit on Gosford Street in the city centre at about 8am on Sunday, one of whom, aged 44, died from his injuries.
Police said they were in the process of contacting his next of kin.
The cyclist who was killed was named last night as Joel Carreido, 47, a healthcare assistant. His family said he was "a loving husband and father of two", and would be "missed dearly by all that knew him".
Carreido was killed when he was hit on Woodway Lane on the northeast outskirts of the city, about four miles from Gosford Street. The driver of the car then crashed into a house on Beckbury Road and fled.
Flowers and candles were left yesterday at the scene where the Carreido was killed. He was returning home from a night shift at the nearby University hospital, where he worked on the gastroenterology ward.
