VISION FOR PLYMOUTH TO BE REGION'S 'TOP SHOPPING AND LEISURE DESTINATION’

4,000 new homes plan to revitalise city centre

PLYMOUTH city centre is set to be transformed into the region’s top shopping and leisure destination with thousands of people living in it. A new business plan sets out a vision for the area and says: “More homes, leisure and attractive public spaces are on the way as the regeneration of Plymouth city centre gains momentum.”

It says that the huge investment from Plymouth City Council into projects such as the upgrade of Old Town Street and New George Street and the forthcoming “stunning urban park” in Armada Way, will act as a catalyst for more public and private sector cash to flow in. This will, it predicts, lead to 4,000 homes being created in the city centre and new uses for empty shops.

The vision is set out in Plymouth City Centre Company’s newly published Draft Business Plan for 2025 to 2030. Businesses will vote next month on whether to extend the Business Improvement District for another five years.
