Beaumont, who is in Devon’s 12-man squad for Sunday’s Twenty20 double-header against Herefordshire at Sandford, spent the UK winter living and playing in Sydney.
Six months in the harsh environment of Grade cricket with St George & District was a real learning curve for the former Plymouth College student, who turned 20 towards the end of his stay.
“It is a different type of cricket which is more defensive than the one we play over here,” said Beaumont.
“In two-day cricket (played on consecutive Saturdays) you build an innings and don’t want to give it away as you might not get to bat again for three weeks. It has made me value my wicket more.
“We played a mixture of one-day and two-day cricket – five of each I think – and I felt I did ok. I scored a few 50s and had a couple of five wicket matches with the ball.”
