LADIES

Bradshaw played in the very first season of the P&D league in 1967 and was a more than able sub, using all her experience and court craft as she and partner Jess Randell only dropped seven games.

Despite super slice shots from Saltash’s Liz Gill and Sue Murch - and lobbing from Saltash’s Val Knight and Di Fritton - Plymstock weren’t to be outdone and the running from Randell, and rallying from Jane Williams and Debbie Bauckham helped it to be a very close, hard fought match.

There was a fabulous tie-break between Liz and Sue against Jane and Debbie seeing the Saltash pair winning 10-8, but Plymstock did just enough to win 46-42.

Tavistock ladies D team played host to Plympton D, and it turned into somewhat of a marathon, finishing as it was just getting dark.

Tavistock’s Catherine Hill returned to league tennis after injury to team up with Mary Harold and, in spite of the efforts of Plympton’s Jo Katz and Carla Price, they won their opening match after three tie-breaks.

They then took the second match 6-0, 6-3 against Julie Lees and Louise Luckraft. Tavi’s second pair Cathy Warne and Lindsay Wolfendon were narrowly pipped by Julie and Louise 5-6, 4-6 but were comfortably beaten 1-6, 2-6 by Jo and Carla. Plympton just won 50-47.

Looe B are still finding it tough in the division, and when they played second place Tavistock C they lost 72-19, while the wet weather meant all matches in Division 1 were rained off on Monday.

In Division 2, Tavistock A were missing Olivia Clark for this week’s match but her place was ably taken by Katy Bruce, a former junior member of the club.
