MEL'S MISSION IS QUEST TO RESTORE BODY CONFIDENCE
SARAH ELMES
City salon owner's aid for cancer patients

A PLYMOUTH salon owner is helping to restore the body confidence of people who have lost nipples and areolae after breast reconstruction surgery.

Mel Hopwood, originally from Liverpool, was a single mum of two boys and working as a nurse, but felt she needed a 'better work-life balance! While working full-time for the NHS, Mel took evening classes in beauty therapy and got the qualifications she needed after a gruelling four years.

The 51-year-old, who now owns and runs Brow Envy in Millbay, eventually left the NHS and became a complementary therapist for Macmillan Cancer Support, alongside running her salon on a mobile basis.
