THE death of a young sailor and talented footballer has left his community heartbroken and in shock as a fundraiser set up in his name has exceeded its target. Herald sister website CornwallLive reported last week how police named a man who died following a fatal car crash in Torpoint. Kyran Carney, 19, died following the collision at around 2.30pm on October 7. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Kyran’s family said: It is with great sadness as a family to announce the passing of Kyran Philip Carney, 19 years old, of Torpoint, Cornwall.
“On Friday 7 October 2022, Kyran, a young Royal Navy sailor, was fatally injured whilst a passenger in a vehicle collision. The family respectfully requests time to process this devastating news and to grieve whilst we await the outcome of ongoing investigations.”
A fundraiser set up to remember Kyran and possibly install a memorial bench, described him as a much-loved young man with a bright future ahead of him.
