THE permanent closure of Plymouth's largest nightclub is being blamed on tough trading conditions, as cash-strapped students steer clear of the dancefloor.
The enormous Pryzm club, at Barbican Leisure Park, will shut for good after a farewell party on New Year's Eve.
Danish company Rekom, which owns the 2,400-capacity nightspot, said it had been unable to agree a new lease with Barbican Leisure Park's owner, Legal and General. Rekom said it had wanted a lease that reflected the difficult trading environment it was operating in, and the fact that the leisure park was situated away from the "beating heart" of Plymouth's nightlife.
