Five-star Morton stars in Saltash's huge win

SALTASH 83 NEWQUAY 5

WILL Morton helped himself to five tries two in the first half, three in the second as Saltash demolished Newquay Hornets 83-5 at Moorlands Lane.

Table-topping Saltash, who are five-points ahead of second-placed Redruth 2nd XV in Cornwall One, briefly trailed to an early try by Newquay's Lowen Mears-Ollerenshaw.

Morton pounced for tries on eight and 15 minutes, both converted by Ryan Crucikshanks, and 11 further tries followed as Saltash ran Hornets ragged.

By half time Danny Snook, Lewis Wells, Cruickshanks and Ryan Rayner had all followed Morton over the line. Cruickshanks converted five out of six.

Morton and Cruickshanks continued the onslaught with a try each in a running total of 50-5.

The tries kept coming from Morton (2), Tom Hollyman, Wells and Lewis Woolaway. Cruickshanks kicked nine conversions and hit a post with another.

While Saltash were piling-up the points, promotion rivals Redruth hit Bodmin 100-5.

While Saltash have a weekend off coming up this coming weekend, Redruth play their game in hand away to Helston.

The big game is seven days later when Saltash pay a visit to Hellfire Corner where Redruth will be waiting for them.

DEVONPORT SERVICES 28 LAUNCESTON 18

DEVONPORT Services sorted themselves out in the second half to defeat promotion rivals Launceston 28-18 in the top-of-the-table clash in South West One.

Services were never ahead in the first half and had wait until a minute after the break to get their noses in front, but not for long.

In an absorbing second half between two sides giving it everything they had, Launceston regained the lead at 18-13, only for Services to claw back to all square at 18-all.

A penalty shunted Services ahead with six minutes to go, but three points was hardly a comfortable margin.
