Frontline officer shares her view of city disorder

'I DIDN'T EXPECT BRICKS WOULD BE THROWN'

A PLYMOUTH frontline police officer has shared her experience of last week’s the violent disorder from protesters – and said she is proud of the way in which police coped as missiles rained down on them.

Emma White, a temporary Police Sergeant, joined Devon and Cornwall Police as a response officer based in Crownhill Police Station, and has given a first-hand account of her experiences in the face of violent protesters.

T/Sgt White admitted she did not expect the level of disorder seen in the protests, and which has resulted in a number of people receiving prison sentences for their roles.

Equally, she said she was surprised that bricks were thrown, but added that she had faith in her colleagues.

She said: “On Monday I thought that there would just be a lot of anti-social behaviour, predominantly from people who wanted to misbehave under the guise of the protest.

“I didn’t think that we would have the level of disorder from all sides, from all ages, and genders.
