PLYMOUTH Gladiators boss Garry May says he is exploring every avenue to find a suitable replacement for injured number one Nico Covatti.
The team's prospects for the forthcoming Championship season were dealt a massive blow when news broke that the 35-year-old suffered serious arm and leg injuries in a nasty crash back in his Argentinian homeland.
In a cruel twist of fate, it happened to be Covatti's last meeting before he was due to fly to the UK to prepare for the 2024 season with his bikes waiting for him in Poole. Instead, he will now undergo the surgeon's knife today before heading to Italy to start his rehabilitation.
Covatti claims he will be ready to ride by the spring, but May is less confident. And with that in mind, he is now desperately seeking a top-class rider that can come in at number one and replace the flamboyant Covatti.
"He is talking about being back by the spring, but I can't see that," May (pictured) said. "He has to get back and get match fit and we just have to do what we have to do and have a look at the options we have got, really.
