The talented 22-year-old attacker was only ever a bit-part player at his former club Swansea City, but both during a hugely successful loan spell at Argyle in the first half of last season and now after completing a £1 million transfer in the summer he has been very influential.
Whittaker said: "I'm really happy. That's why I was so desperate to come back because I knew I would get the opportunity that I'm getting now, and be able to score goals and play how I'm playing.
"I have got a manager that trusts me, I know the players and it's a good group, and obviously the fans are really good with me." He described the support of Schumacher as 'massive' to him and added: "When you have got a manager that puts his faith in you it shows on the pitch." Whittaker has scored a goal in each of the last three games - the 3-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday, the favourite one of his career in the 3-2 defeat at Ipswich Town, and then in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at Home Park.
That has taken his Championship tally for the campaign to seven, which also includes a hat-trick in the 6-2 thrashing of Norwich City in September. He has also provided three assists.
