Interim pair want performance to make fans proud

(KO The Pilgrims' long-serving first team coach has taken temporary charge of the team, along with club captain Joe Edwards, after Argyle and head coach Wayne Rooney parted ways yesterday.

Nancekivell stressed it would be very much a joint effort between him and Edwards, who has not played since October due to a hamstring injury.

The pair took training at Harper's Park yesterday morning after the news emerged that Rooney's reign at Argyle had come to an end after just 23 Championship matches, and only four wins. Nancekivell and Edwards then spoke to Argyle TV in the afternoon.

Nancekivell said: "It's never nice because whenever you have to step in and help the club out it ultimately means someone has lost their job, which we are always sad to see.

"We have to move on. The board have made a decision and some members of staff have left us. Joe and myself have been asked to look after the club in the interim period, which we will do, and we have prepared the lads the best we can for [the] Bristol City game.

"Hopefully we can get a result and a performance to make us all proud." Nancekivell is taking temporary charge of Argyle for a fifth time, and the third occasion in the past 13 months, but it is a new role for Edwards, who has not made a secret of his ambition to move into coaching when his playing career ends.
