MEN’S
IN Division One, Chris Ryland and Tom Chiappe of Devonshire A proved too strong for both Ivybridge pairs.
The Devonshire second pair of George Welbourne and Rob James got off to a slow start and after going a break down, they clawed their way back into the first set, only to lose in the tie-break.
An improved performance in the second set led to a championship tiebreak, but they lost this.
The second match saw Rob and George winning the tie-break to take the first set, losing the second set and then winning a tight championship tiebreak 13-11, despite having been 6-1 down at one point.
Overall, it was a good 63-57 win for Devonshire against an Ivybridge team that are sitting close to the top of the table and playing very well.
Top of the league Tavistock looked to extend their lead with a trip to Mannamead and took advantage of Mannamead A not having two of their regular A team players.
Mannamead’s first pair of Matt Bowers and Tom Pantling took both sets from Tavistock’s second pair and made Nick Bielby and Rhys Dunsford work for their points, but Tavistock won 59-32.
Ivybridge B lost 48-40 to St Budeaux A and in a rearranged match, St Budeaux A beat Devonshire A 47-45.
In Division Two, it was unfortunate for Looe that their pairing of Steve Garaghon and Mark Southern had to retire after the first set due to an injury, but Looe still picked up quite a few points and only just lost 45-37 to Tavistock B.
