Kaine left shocked to be handed a recall by Aston Villa

HEAD coach Ian Foster has admitted he was surprised by the unexpected recall of Kaine KeslerHayden from his Plymouth Argyle loan spell by Aston Villa.

Foster found out about it not long after Kesler-Hayden had played in the 1-1 Championship draw away to Huddersfield Town last Saturday, with Villa saying the 21-year-old saying would be involved with their first-team squad. Argyle then moved swiftly to replace the wingback by signing free agent Sorinola Matthew on Wednesday.

According to Keslerwas disaster, Hayden 'really pointed' to leave after making 19 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship this season, in what was already the fourth loan of his career.

The Pilgrims' boss said: "I was surprised. The timing of it, we were on the bus on the way back from Huddersfield and we got the notification, but you always run the risk with loan players that during the window they get recalled.

"Aston Villa have assured us he is going back to fight for his place and we wish him well. I have worked with Kaine, I think I gave him his England (under-20s) debut.

"He's a lovely kid, and he was really disappointed (about the loan recall). I don't mean that he doesn't want to play for Aston Villa, of course he does, but I think he was just enjoying it so much down here, playing regularly.

"We saw Kaine as someone we could help develop but, like I say, that's the risk you run and he has gone back to his parent club, and we hope he gets game time in the Premier League and in Europe."

Foster was asked whether he would be disappointed if KeslerHayden was loaned out or sold to another club before the end of the January transfer window and replied: "Maybe, but there is not a great deal we can do about that.
