PLYMOUTH City Council will continue to face financial challenges despite the Government promising £64bn to local authorities to stop them going bankrupt, leader Tudor Evans says.
The Labour supremo said the provisional settlement will not make up for years of underfunding from the Tories and said Plymouth has been “short changed”.
He said the provisional settlement won’t address inflationary pressures and rising demand for social care and temporary housing for a growing number of homeless people.
He said Plymouth’s Services Grant, a key component of the council’s core funding, has been slashed from £2.35m to £375,000, an 84% cut.
Cllr Evans said: “After years of the Government reducing funding for local government, we are used to having low expectations from the annual settlement, so we are not surprised that this one is not all that the headlines promise.
