McPhee calls on Parkway to build on win

CHRIS McPhee tasted victory for the first time as a manager last week and has challenged his Plymouth Parkway players to kick on from that 4-1 FA Cup win against Baffins Milton Rovers.

A Matt Wright hat-trick did much of the damage, as Parkway set up a winnable second qualifying round tie against Division One South side Westbury United, while Dylan Jones was also on target, finishing off a sublime team move, as McPhee saw clear signs of the football he is keen for his team to play this season.

However, taking that into tomorrow's home clash with Walton & Hersham will not be easy as the visitors have made an excellent start to the season, winning four and losing just one of their first five league games. But if Parkway can turn in a similar display to last week, then they have every chance of picking up their first league win of the campaign.

"The way we went about our business from the first whistle was really positive," McPhee said of that FA Cup success. "The last time we were at home (a 3-0 home defeat to Winchester City) we had a few problems in possession and that hit us hard as a group of players, but the resilience has been fantastic.

"We got back on the training pitch and started to realign those pictures and moments in the game. I was really pleased with how we started the game and going 1-0 up goodness knows how many passes led to the goal - and I think that has given the boys that reassurance that we can win football matches the way we play and we can hurt the opposition.
