Schumacher thought the Pilgrims were the better team before the break but all they had to show for it was an 18th-minute strike from midfielder Luke Cundle. Swansea then turned a 1-0 half-time deficit into a 2-1 lead by the 68th minute with goals from Jerry Yates and Ollie Cooper.
Argyle rallied strongly after falling behind and had chances to equalise, the best came when captain Joe Edwards sent a close-range header over the bar in the 86th minute.
Josh Key then grabbed a third goal for Swansea in the 90th minute, with Schumacher angry his side were not awarded a free-kick for a foul on Edwards before it was scored.
