APPEAL TO RETAIN £50 REBATE IS DENIED

MPs seek to halt water bills rise

THE Government has been accused of "ignoring" pleas not to axe a £50 rebate on water bills in the South West - with MPs warning families will be "hit in the pocket".

South West Water customers will see their bills go up, after the Government removed the £50 contribution it has made since 2013.

It was originally introduced because customers faced significantly higher water bills than in other regions due to the level of investment the company required to make to meet environmental and water quality standards.

The Government says that, over the last decade, the difference between water bills in the South West and others has decreased.
